When should swelling during pregnancy be a concern?

Pregnancy FAQs

Swelling in pregnancy is a common occurrence and is often considered normal. However, there are certain situations where swelling may be a cause for concern. It is important to see your doctor if you experience any of the following:

  • sudden swelling,
  • swelling in your face or hands,
  • if the swelling does not improve after resting,
  • or if you’re just worried about what you’re experiencing.

These may be a sign of high blood pressure in pregnancy, or pre-eclampsia.
