Where does the sugar come from? I see sugars present in the Nutritional Information Panel?
CERELAC FAQs
Baby Rice – CERELAC is made with a special technology called CHE (Cereals Hydrolysed Enzymatically) which breaks down carbohydrates into smaller components. During this CHE process, sugars are produced when the complex carbohydrates are ‘chopped’ up into smaller components. Note: all available carbohydrates when digested in the body, form simple sugars.
Oats & Wheat with Prune and Multigrain with Banana & Apple variants – A combination of the CHE process as above, as well as fruit sugars (from the prune, pear, banana and apple).
Why do I have to use the Rice cereal first and not the other varieties?
CERELAC FAQs
A rice-based infant cereal has been a long-standing tradition as one of the first foods of an infant’s diet. Its smooth texture and mild flavour make it stage and age appropriate and therefore suitable for an infant’s introduction to solids before a diverse and complex range of foods are introduced later in their diet
Is it OK to give my baby less or more than the suggested serving size on pack?
CERELAC FAQs
All infants vary and your baby will let you know if they require more or less. It is important to note the nutritional information provided on pack reflects the recommended serve size. If your baby is eating less, the nutritional benefits of the product will also be lower.
However, you may find the suggested serving size for CERELAC a little too much if this is your baby’s first solid food. You only need to start with around half to one teaspoon once or twice a day, slowly increasing the quantity to two to three tablespoons as your baby progresses. To get all the great benefits of CERELAC (such as supporting the immune system with Iron and Vitamin C), you can meet the recommended serve over a couple of meals throughout the day as part of a varied diet. You can also find great recipes on our website with CERELAC. If you need further guidance or are concerned about your baby’s eating, we recommend you consult your health care professional.
Can I mix CERELAC infant cereals with breast milk?
CERELAC FAQs
Absolutely! In fact, we encourage you to mix CERELAC with baby’s usual milk as they are used to this taste and may learn to accept new tastes and textures more readily. Note that if prepared with breast milk, the cereal may become more watery as the enzymes in breast milk can start breaking down the cereal.
Can I alter the amount of cereal or liquid based on my child's preferences / textures?
CERELAC FAQs
The ratio of liquid to cereal has been developed to ensure appropriate texture and consistency. Also keep in mind that the nutrition information has been devised from the recommended serve size i.e. 15g cereal for CERELAC Baby Rice and 21g cereal for all other CERELAC varieties, so by altering the amount of cereal you are altering the nutrients your child will receive.
